This male northern flicker had been doing some cleanup in a nest hole previously occupied by starlings, when his mate showed up. Apparently she suggested he go have a beer with the guys or something, and leave the cleaning to her, because he bolted out of that hole and was gone in a flash! I just got him as he was departing...

Very nice, great view of the colorful wing feathers. I see these in my yard, but don’t often see the wings like that.
