    Steve's Best/Favorites from 2013

Chad: Thanks so much. That's nice to here (read!). Regarding the Angel shot, as I recall, the processing was mostly a substantial increase on clarity, a modest increase on saturation (which is lost with the increase on clarity), sharpening and a little bit of noise reduction. The sun...

    Steve's Best/Favorites from 2013

    11) My son's first header (for his brain's sack, hopefully the last). 12) My son's team mate in great concentration. 13) Another team mate scoring a goal - 7 exposures. 14) One of Mt. Rainier's better days. 15) Gig Harbor from Vashon Island.

    Steve's Best/Favorites from 2013

    6) Into the Sunset at Angel Az, outside Flagstaff. 7) Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona, AZ, an HDR image. 8) A good year wouldn't be complete without a least one shot from my favorite bridge, Steilacoom. 9) A weirdly foggy day on the Sound - Anderson Island Ferry. 10) Sunset Falls, near...

    Steve's Best/Favorites from 2013

Took me a while to sort through my 2013 shots. Here's what rose to the top. 1) A night photo shoot at Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad. HDR image 2) & 3) HDR images of Tacoma's Union Station. 4) A sunset of an Amtrak Cascades train at Steilacoom. 5) The Meeker Mansion circa 1955, in HO...

Use of Railroad Tracks as a Photo setting - Please Don't!!

Good stuff Bob! I'll add, that if you don't know which track the mainline is, or even what a mainline is (there are often more than one), don't stand on any tracks.

Use of Railroad Tracks as a Photo setting - Please Don't!!

On Saturday 1/18/14, Jeff Ray, a Guitarist with the Jersey Boys, was hit and killed by an Amtrak Cascades train in Auburn WA. Jeff was standing in the tracks for a photo (taken by his girl friend) of him with Mt. Rainier in the background. While not quite the same as professional (and...

HDR - Chapel of the Holy Cross

The neighborhood near the chapel is all posted no parking. I found a spot that I believed was a valid parking spot and walked to the location. There was only really one or two good spots outside of the chapel property, which was gated closed at night.

HDR - Chapel of the Holy Cross

Bear in mind, it was a full moon, no cloud over the moon and the moon light was directed right at the cliffs. This image is the donor for the sky, and you can see that the sky and the cliffs are pretty much the same as the HDR image. as far brightness goes. No editing done to this image...

HDR - Chapel of the Holy Cross

I was in Sedona AZ recently for a wedding and stumbled upon the Chapel of the Holy Cross. A full moon and the beautifully lit chapel, cried out for HDR. This one used up 10 images. When finished running it through Photomatix and further tweaking in Lightroom, I wasn't happy with the sky. So...

    Pleated Woodpecker

Here's your photo. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3782/9734335646_5a4afd05e6_c.jpg I'm not an expert, but I think this might be a Red-headed woodpecker, at least it looks closer to that than a Pileated woodpecker (Woody). Here's a couple of the Pileated I've caught.

How many shots of a Sunset do you shoot??

Until I get it right, or the colors fade.

    Northern Lights

Thanks Gary! How would it have looked, do you suppose, had you used a minute expsoure and a lower ISO (say in the range of my equipment - 1000 or less)?

    Northern Lights

I'd say there was a lot more than luck involved. Those are stunning images! Care to share any setting details for those of us not quite so, err, lucky?

    Caption This!

I ran across this Bald Eagle a couple years ago on a cruise to Friday Harbor and back. A few sequences earlier, I got him/her actually chasing a harbor seal into the surf. He seems to be in command of the situation and I thought some creative captioning might be in order. Just off to the...
