If you missed my South Africa bird gallery, you may not have seen images from a pretty cool interaction I was fortunate to witness. I've written up the full story on my blog.

On the very first day of the trip, I had one of my best wildlife encounters of the year. Stationed in a hide in Zimanga Game Reserve, I witnessed a battle between an African fish eagle (which looks similar in some respects to our bald eagles) and a Goliath heron, the world's tallest heron species. During my wildlife adventures, some of my favorite moments have occurred when two species came together in an unexpected interaction or conflict, and this showdown certainly fit the bill.
