F 1.8 or f 1.4, which should you choose?

Conventional wisdom is that the F 1.4 lens is better. It can do anything the F 1.8 can, and one thing it can't, go to F 1.4. Granted, depth of field at 1.4 can be paper thin, but it's there if you need it. Another idea is that if you're shooting an F 1.4 lens at F 1.8, then you're not pushing it to the limits, and so it will perform a bit better than one that can only shoot 1.8. I'm not sure how valid that argument is.

Here's a contrarian point of view. Why choose F 1.8? Obviously the price is better. But there are other factors as well. Check it out.
