Front Yard Butterfly

Friday afternoon (5/6/16) I saw this butterfly in my front yard licking a sticky substance off the fir tree. Look closely and you can see it retracting its tongue.









Edit: An artist friend of mine ID'ed this as a red admiral. She has painted them many times.
