I found this photo while searching through some random albums of mine today. I took this earlier this fall, with my Canon 8mp P&S, in manual macro mode. I was walking into a secret truffle location of mine near Florence, unprepared to shoot, when I almost stepped on this lil feller.

I snapped off 12 frames, while on my belly and lucked out with one tongue shot!

I actually like snakes and this is a cool shot!!!! Glad he co-operated, having the tongue flicking makes the shot :)

Thanks, dudes. Like I said, I was laying on my belly on an old gated road, and inching the camera towards the snake by extending my arm. Luckily, my p&S has live view, so I could compose and focus rather well. The light kept drastically changing though, and I had to keep changing my shutter speed. Finally, the light and snake cooperated and I got this one. I bet I looked pretty funny laying there on the ground, cursing at my camera with a curled up garder snake inches away ;)
