The week before last week I saw a sign that there was a dressage event coming to Ridgefield and decided to try my hand at shooting horses. Heck, if it works for agility dogs why not horses?!
So here are some shots from last weekend.

And a barn owl, or maybe and arena owl in this case

Looks pretty good for the first time out shooting horses. I'm not sure what you had for access, but look to try something where you can get low and shoot up at the horses. It might clean up the backgrounds a tad and it will also give the horses a more majestic look from that perspective.

Nobody is allowed in the ring. As you can see there is a tall enclosure of plywood around the ring as well as an annoying cable. Only view is from above.

The only way to get a somewhat level shot of the horse was to shoot it from the far side of the arena. When they crossed the arena the compositions were not as attractive unless I could catch them mid ring at an angle.

Notice the rail in relation to the horses height. They were also very close when going around the ring. The opportunities were limited.

And they have a solid white fence behind a matching white horse. :)

I bet it was fun to shoot even with the difficulties. Good job.
