A thunderstorm rolled up the Sound about 4:00pm Thursday (5/4/17). I drove to Sunset Ave. and mounted the 5DIII + 17-35L wide angle zoom on a tripod.

I tried using a time exposure to capture the lightning. It was not dark enough and the shots were over exposed. I ended up with two lightning shots by snapping bursts of 3-5 shots over an extended period of time.

The thunder clouds started moving in over town. I turned the camera east.....

and southeast.

A parting photo of the Sound before I left ahead of heavy rain.

It rained hard on the way home and continued thundering for the next two hours. I heard a thunder clap a few minutes ago as I was typing this and it is starting to rain again.

Good job catching the lightning, Bill! It's easy to correct for overexposure in processing - darkening the lightning shots, particularly the first one, makes quite a difference.

Those clouds look like something from a sci-fi movie! Got a lot of rain here as well, along with a couple hours of thunder. Didn't get any lightning shots, though...
