    The top two shots are taken at the end of a salmon ladder so yes, faster flowing water.

    I asked because I have never seen photos of herons standing by fast flowing water.

    At low tide, they seem to work the fish ladder pretty hard. I've never seen them take a fish larger then minnow size.
