    Default New Year's Moons 2018

January 2018 presents two opportunities to photograph some special lunar events.

    January 1: Super moon.

January 31: Blue moon, super moon, and a lunar eclipse.

I had forgotten about the New Year's super moon until after I woke up about 1:15am. It was about 25*F out on the back deck, so forget about getting dressed and setting up the 500L telephoto lens on a tripod. I did not linger for long taking these photos handheld with the 1Dx + 100-400L II telephoto zoom.

The moon was shining through a thin cloud layer, which complicated taking photos just a bit.

I switched to monochrome + blue tint, my preferred method for taking moon shots.
