I met up with friends to catch the sunrise in the Columbia Gorge. It's always a roll of the dice, and you never know what you are going to get. I was hoping for a little red since a weather front was going to come in. Today was not my lucky day. But anyday shooting is a good day.

The first light of day, morning blue hour.

And the haze and blue tint pretty much continued.

So off we went to have a big breakfast at Char Burger in Cascade Locks. Feeling fat and lazy I had intended to drive past Multnomah Falls but it had a tantalizing little cloud that poured out past the cliffs and lured me in.

Multnomah Falls, just when you think you've had enough, you just have to get more.

Beautiful stuff Janice. Thanks for sharing. I need to get back down there soon. Going through Gorge withdrawals.

Thank you Arline. I think this is the best time of year, they are running full and without leaves on the trees you can get a full view of all the falls.

Wow, great view of the falls! I've never been up there outside of summer. One of these days I want to get back down there and try an HDR shot of this view.

You have to see it in the winter.
Regarding HDR, both of these images were toned mapped single shots. I found it interesting, especially in the second image, that the haze was nearly eliminated in a three image HDR and ended up not using it because I lost what I saw when I took the shot.

A slightly different angle but the atmosphere was the same.
