i was out exploring yesterday, and the road i was on had "road closed ahead" signs on it. i'd seen the same signs last winter, but assumed the closure was due to snow, but i was wrong. apparently, the road washed out last fall during some heavy flooding, as part of the river changed course and now actually flows along the road before veering off to the side and heading back toward its former channel... 5D. 24-135, 1/13 @ f/13...

Hey, Rocky,

Too bad we can only enter one photo for June. You just keep shootin' 'em. Wonderful wonderful pics. You got water on your mind this month or what? ;) C.

LOL... yeah, water on the brain... that's it! :D

seriously, i do have a very strong tendency to include water in some form in my landscape photos. for me, it just really adds something, whether it's a reflection, the sense of motion and time flowing past, or just a nice element to balance the rest of the image. about the only time i don't have water in a landscape pic somewhere is if i'm shooting in places where there just isn't any.

I've seen a lot of streets called "River Road", but that's taking it to extremes!

Interesting photos.

Mother Nature always wins

Those are great. Goes to show ya, Mother Nature always has the last word.

I especially love the second composition.

I know what you mean.

I love water in landscapes too. Seems something is missing otherwise. I am going to have to find out if there are settings on my camera that will let me get shots similar to some of yours. I pretty much set it on "auto" right now. I have trouble making sense of my manual--haven't taken the time, really, since I learned enough to get the results I wanted at the time. You guys are making me want to see if it does more. I kinda think it may.... Thanks, C.

P.S. And if it doesn't? I just might start borrowing my husband's Canon. :D

It probably can do them just fine. All you really need is the ability to set the shutter speed. Slow it down, and the water starts to blur. Get to 1/4 or 1/2 second, and you get a silky look.

Just about any camera that has a setting other than Automatic can do that. You don't even have to go to full manual. Just go to shutter priority, set the shutter speed, and then let the camera adjust aperature to match.

Thanks, Bob.

I will look it up tonight. Next step is running water.... Oh wait! I have a little stream in my back yard!!!! (I have been trying to shoot that little sucker for years now! Hahaha!!! It's part of a small, built-in water feature. Now if the Sun would just come out....) Oh. Tripod. Right? Hahahah. C.

Last laugh....

This will KILL you guys. We just bought another Sony Cyber-Shot!!! For my HUSBAND!!! He wants something he can just grab and go, like I do. A quick handful of AA batteries and you're off.... How is that for funny. :D:D He was jealous of MY camera. BWAAAAAH. :p
