got these at Juanita Bay... there are several birch trees there, and the red-breasted sapsuckers frequent them often. one that i observed would fly to the tree, harvest some insects, then take off, presumably back to its nest to feed its young; about 20 minutes later, it would return, and repeat the process. the tree is fairly close to the boardwalk, so these were shot from on;y about 10-15 yards away, and are basically just full-height vertical crops of the original landscape image, resized for posting... 40D, 400mm, various settings...

Thanks, Rocky. I check in pretty frequently but have had nothing to post.... no great photographs like yours yet. Maybe now that Spring is here....
 
Rocky, you are the man for close-up bird shots.

Rocky has been getting many great close-up shots of various birds. I suspect he attracts them by attaching their favorite food to his hair and clothing. He takes his shots just as they pull away after realizing they have been tricked. ;)
