This is a phainopepla, a bird native to the region around the US-Mexico border, that almost never gets north of southern California and Arizona. It's been hanging out over in Sequim for a couple of days... this is only the second recorded instance of this bird in Washington, the last being a visual-only (i.e. no photos) record from 1994.
With a Steller's jay for size comparison...

LOL! Yeah.. much smaller, much darker... glad I got to see and photograph it though... this is only the second one ever seen in WA, so it has lots of people all excited....
