Took a little trip up Northrup Canyon in the Coulee Dam area of WA. I hoped to see some nice fall color but think I was a week or two early. On the way out at about 3:30 I heard this noise. My first thought was it was a big beetle or Jun bug type insect rubbing it's legs together. My second thought was "SNAKE!" and took a huge step back...that's when I saw the little bugger. Elapsed time from first hearing the noise to taking my giant step was about 1.273524 seconds :). Since I felt I was out of striking range and he had relaxed a tad but was still shaking his tail I'd try and grab a couple of shots to see what I'd get. About an hour later the Adrenalin stopped flowing.
