The Norfolk Southern Railroad, which serves primarily the East Coast and upper Midwest, has painted several of its diesel engines in the paint schemes of its predecessor railroads. These "heritage" paint schemes commemorate former railroads which were acquired by the Norfolk Southern throughout the years by purchases, mergers, etc.
There may be as many as seventeen different heritage units. Within the past two weeks two of them have passed through the Seattle area on trains of the BNSF Railroad, half a continent removed from their nearest home rails. It is not unusual to see diesels of other railroads running on the BNSF due to run-through agreements or leases.

3/2/2014 it was one of two radio-controled rear end helpers on the end of an oil tank car train.
