this double-crested cormorant caught itself a sculpin - the kind we always called "bullheads" when i was a kid - near the Edmonds pier, and spent a good 5 minutes flipping it around trying to get it positioned just right for the Big Gulp...

Good shots . I once saw a cormorant try for over twenty to down a bullhead that was just too large for it to swallow.
 
I think those bullheads have some pretty sharp spikes on their front side fins? I wonder how good that feels going down :)

the spines pretty much fold flat unless the fish goes down backwards, which is why the cormorant spent so much time making sure the fish went down head first!
