Founded in 1974, Oregon Wild a nonprofit organization which works to protect and restore Oregon’s wildlands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians, announced it is accepting submissions for the seventh annual Oregon Wild Outdoor Photo Contest. The submission window runs through September 15 and information on how to submit photographs can be found at http://www.oregonwild.org/photo-contest. Submissions will be accepted in five different categories, including Endangered Places.

This year, the Endangered Places category features the rushing waters, wildlife-filled marshes, and diverse wetlands of the Klamath River Watershed. Stretching from Oregon’s high desert through Ponderosa pine forests and on to the Pacific Ocean, the Klamath is a biodiversity hot spot and a breathtaking landscape. To qualify for the Endangered Places category, photos must be taken inside the boundaries of the Klamath Watershed in Oregon or inside the boundaries of the Tule Lake and Lower Klamath Lake National Wildlife Refuges just across the border in northern California. The rivers that feed the Klamath and the wetlands of the National Wildlife Refuges have long been threatened by lack of sufficient water, dams, and the conversion of wetlands to agricultural land. The photo contest homepage on the Oregon Wild website has additional resources for discovering this unique corner of the state.

“With its stunning light, abundance of wildlife and critical role as a resting place for migratory birds, the Klamath Basin's uniqueness is worth capturing on film – especially in light of the many threats the area faces.” said Oregon Wild Executive Director Scott Shlaes.

This year’s categories for the Outdoor Photo Contest are:
• Wildlands—any image taken of federal public land in Oregon
• Wildlife—photos taken of native Oregon species in their native habitat, including fish
• Waters—photos taken of pristine, undeveloped waterways in Oregon
• Endangered Places— photos taken in the Klamath River Watershed in Oregon or within the boundaries of Tule Lake and Lower Klamath Lake National Wildlife Refuges. (additional category details)
• Youth—Any photograph that meets the above criteria taken by a youth age 12 or under on the day the photograph was taken

Contest winners will be announced at an unveiling event in the fall. Over $1,000 in prizes will be given away to winning photographers, with prints of the winning photos auctioned off to support the conservation mission of Oregon Wild.
