went up to Mt. Shuksan today to see what i could get... a bit too early in the season for fall color, but not much left of summer flowers, either... :( still, i managed a couple of good shots. the first one is a 5-shot vertical stitch with my 5D... the final image is 6275x4181, so will make nice large prints! ;) the second is a "pseudo-HDR" processed in Photomatix to bring out some detail in the trees.

late afternoon...

Very nice shots, I think I just found the "photo of the day" for our Facebook page.

A 5 shot image stitched together? Wow, I'm impressed!

It's interesting to see the color differences in the two. Was that the way it looked, or did the HDR change the color tones a bit? I know that light can dramatically change the look and coloration of a mountain, Rainier can go from pink to blue in minutes.

Bob, HDR does increase saturation somewhat. it's easy enough to counteract, though in this case i chose to leave it a little elevated. alpenglow does tint the mountain with a nice rosy hue, and usually is only evident for a few minutes.

How long of a hike is it to this location? It's really worth a visit.

that second one is breath-taking!

thanks, Barb!

it's pretty strenuous... you park alongside the road and follow a path that takes you along the lake shore... must be, oh, a good 75 yards or so... :D the path is paved for handicapped access, and there are two platforms built right at the water's edge for people to set up tripods and the like. the drive up there is about 2-1/2 hours from Seattle.

Ah, that's my kind of hike! I'll have to check it out sometime, thanks for the info!
