Short-eared owls are daylight hunters, so good shots are assured if the owls are present. They share their habitat with northern harriers, so fights between the owls and harriers or fights with other short-eareds are common.
Notice the different sizes of the right and left pupils. One's in sunlight, the other in shadow.
While there's a Snowy owl at Fern Ridge in Lane County, Oregon; There's also one that has been making it's rounds in Polk Co. most recently over the weekend in Dallas, OR. Sunday it was perched on a resident's roof. The owl was seen in a different area of town on Monday and there haven't been any reports of it being relocated by birders since.
Here's some shots I took last Sunday

Good shots of the snowy. We are coming down the home stretch of the 2014 owl thread.
I agree with Bill - nice shots. What lens were you using??
Thanks Bill and Terry.
Terry, I was using my Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. The lens has a 24mm- 1200mm equivalent reach.

Which is why some people are trading in their heavy dSLR's and long lenses in on Powershot type cameras.
